This Suicide Prevention Month, we address one of the root causes of acute despair: financial precarity. $200,000 will be used for immediate, unconditional survival grants while $400,000 will fund workforce development and placement through community-owned trades workshops, an AI-free staffing agency, and an independent creative studio.
THE REALITY BEHIND THE NUMBERS
By late 2025, the unemployment rate for Black women reached 7.3%—nearly double the rate for white women (around 3.5%–3.8%), an already compelling fact. What that number does not take into account is the 600,000 black women who after submitting hundreds of unanswered and rejected job applications, stopped applying altogether and were classified as "out of the labor force" by the agency. Black women have been disproportionately affected by the tough labor market, and the resources currently available hardly address the consequences of long term unemployment on human lives.
Long-term involuntary unemployment doubles the risk of severe depression and suicidality. A helpline cannot stop an eviction notice; a resume workshop cannot replace lost health coverage. Prevention begins with material survival. Over 50% of Black women are the primary financial providers for their households. By helping them, we are helping entire communities to service.
WHERE CAPITAL GOES
Twenty unrestricted grants of $10,000 disbursed directly to Black women facing acute layoff crises. Zero strings, no intrusive oversight, no trauma essays. Direct cash halts immediate financial freefall.
Intensive vocational cohorts teaching high-demand essential trades: plumbing, industrial sewing, and handy maintenance. Skills that cannot be eliminated by algorithms or corporate downsizing.
An ethical staffing agency operated without AI screening filters, alongside a creative production studio producing fashion and digital media. Commercial revenue flows directly back into the fund.
Public accounting, secure and private applicant data processing, legal review, and public economic reporting.
